Thumbs up Considering buying this MKIII Supra...

Greeting from the 7th gen corolla forum!

ANYWAY, there is this supra about 15 mins from here, it is a 1992 MKIII supra turbo, there is a 91 engine it the car, and it is TOAST. There is a disassembled 7m-gte in the back of the car, everything is there. The previous owner of the car was bringing the parts to the shop to have the engine built and put in the car, he was stopped and arrested on charges unrelated to the car, either way his son is now selling the car for $800 OBO. the 7m-gte that is in the back has 67,000 miles on it according to the paperwork they have..

My father was considering buying this car for me and him to build ourselves. (we can handle building the engine, trust me)

here is what the car currently looks like:

Sorry the pictures are small, they are from the craigslist ad.. Anyways what do you guys think? is it worth the time and effort? Personally I would LOVE to build this bad boy, but I figured since toyotanation hasn't steered me wrong yet that I should run it by you guys. Thanks, and come visit the 7th gen corolla section some time

Welcome! If you have the skills to put it together and keep the engine costs in line, a clean chassis and interior would be worth the $800. It's going to need some TLC, but what 20 year old car does not. Give it a good once over, and ensure there are no leins (sounds like the owner may have some issues) and if it checks out it would likely be a winner to put together and have some fun with!

So I went to check out the car, and the body is in incredible shape, and the paint is really good sept for one spot that is kinda rubbed out (not very big, only like 2x4in) but I am worried that I will have to replace all the solenoids and sensors, and I have not built a 7mgte before, so you guys think maybe you could help me name those solenoids/sensors? Thanks, here are the pictures:

:3 I really wanna build this car, and even if I cant build it, it may be worth buying to part out (guy is asking $800, we can probably get it for less though)

I'd invest in a service and repair manual. the problem here is that without a decent knowledge of the car, it'll be hard for you to tell what is missing.I can see that most of the big stuff is there, but can't see everything. As you say, for 800 it might be alright, but there is a lot of work there. The engine needs a full rebuild from what I see there. That needs to come out and get done from top to bottom. Brakes are scrap based on the rust...the car has sat quite a while in the elements.

YES!!!

it's a 1992, which means it's only 1 of 1193 originally sold in the US (actual numbers are much lower now)...

the interior alone is worth $4000 if it's complete and in good condition..

buy it, ditch the 7M and do a 1J/2J swap on it... or even a 1UZ swap.

Most Supra owners will tell you the 7M is the best motor in the world when the fact is the opposite, lol.
