Unhappy Dead J Spec 7mge

well guys its hard to say but after finding out the engine spun a bearing the next will make you hurt inside. Here is the worst thing you can hear about going wrong the block was cracked due to water freezing inside the engine even before i bought it from a company in canada i might still have the 1100 from the initial thought of getting it rebuilt seeing that its my father in law that told me this was the cause of the engine going bad but the good is there is another supra thats an 88 non turbo with a sun roof other than the targa top that i love so much and its been there for almost two years because the guy hasn't picked it up so we will be trying to get it and if that doesn't work is there anyone in texas near dallas on this fourm that could be generous enough the sell me a 1jz with a 5 speed tranny and ecu and everything needed for the swap for around 1500? i would be very thank full but please give me your thoughts on what i should do

If you were sold a cracked block go back to the company who you bought it from and demand a refund. And why did you purchase it from Canada...because it said JDM?

You're looking at a GE block. Don't waste your time and effort on a JDM version...people practically throw away working GE engines in favour of JDM GTE's and JZ's. Most wreckers can get you a working GE engine with a basic warranty. It won't be a pick of the litter ready for boost or anything, but it will operate.

it was well over a year and a half ago when i bought it and it was the only thing in my price range at the time as well but i have recently found a 1zj not to far from the shop im working at and its for sale for 1000 usd and they can do same day delivery but the only thing is will my w58 tranny hold the power? Also there is an 88 supra that a customer has left it at the shop for over a year now and all it needs is a carrier bearing and i'll be good to go so if i get it i'll own 2 and the 1jz would go in my 86.5 i would love the 1jz but would also need the ecu and harness but don't know where to find one. i'll keep everyone post on whats going on.

sorry to hear. Just know that the 1j is not a plug and play. Budget that purchase price again to get it running if you do absolutely all the work yourself, and if you need computer and harnesses you can add a fair bit more again. There are a couple of shops that specialize (Driftmotion in California is one I've had good experiences with). Used parts show up on supramania.com all the time.

The w58 will be fine for a stock engine. If you plan on this being a project car, you will want to budget for an R154 and drive shaft down the road.

well the 1zj that i found came from a shop that had burned down and the customers car went with it and well the engine was saved and comes with a partial harness for only 1000 but to get the ecu and harness and carrier bearing from my supra and get it running would be good for the price right? I mean if i do get the 88 supra from next door i'd still have the same 7m bhg problems and if i didn't its still not something i want to go out and white smoke the tires on lol

The bhg problems really are not hard to overcome, but if you're set on the 1j, price a harness ecu and carrier bearing and see if they are in the budget range. It's still not plug and play, but those are some of the major costs.

I look at a used engine as a risk with any engine. Sure the 7M had HG issues, but a beat motor is a beat motor no matter whether it's 7M, 1j or other.
