it depends. The last gen supra was pretty rare as numbers go. They were about the best handling of the stock supras, and were comparable for general feel with the Z of it's era. By todays standards, they were quick but not impressively so. They were heavy though for their size, and you felt it in the corners. Not sports cars in the MR2 or Miata line of thinking, but fat quick GT cars capable of again, impressive cornering at a track, but nothing that was going to blow your mind.
And who does not mod their MKIV?
Minor mods of just a basic performance upgrade (BPU) puts a MKIV in the realm of Porsche 911, just more affordable and rare then a 911.
A MKIV supra is definitely a true affordable rare drivers car.
I've driven Z cars, Audi 5000s, Datsun 240z, Mustangs, Porsche, dirt track race cars. My favorites of were the 996 and the mkiv.
Even with the mkiv being just a rear wheel drive it has lots of grip in wet situations. It gives you lots of confidence in it, how solid it feels
And I'm thinking of selling my RR TT MKIV, complete sacrilege.
Im an owner of a MKIV and can tell you that I just love this car. I've driven a few cars like my friends Evo 9, 06 STI, 350Z, M5 etc.. But the MKIV gives you that thrill of power especially if you go APU. Even in stock form in its time was great and today some cars can't match the performance (braking distance, 0-60, slalom, quarter mile) and this was on old tire technology too.
I can't think of another car today that has an interior that wraps around the driver like a cockpit.

What's an RR twinturbo MKIV ? If you've had yours for a long time, no shame in moving on & trying something different ?
I like how you can adjust the chassis of a rear wheel drive car with the steering + throttle. I'm not one to preach the superiority of all wheel drive in wet situations. . . i grew up learning to drive in a rear wheel drive/manual transmission car in Colorado year around.

That's good to hear you love your Supra. Sometimes there's a fine line between loving and liking a car where the car just can't cross over to the better side.
What's APU ?
yea, sometimes i've looked into a Supra's interior on the street and see how the interior wraps around the driver's side like a cocoon.
APU= advanced performance upgrades. Something like a single turbo and a change to a programmable engine control module.
Yeah I'm trying to decide either put about 10k into my car to maintain and update it or sell it. After 10k I would basically have a super nice new car that I still would own. Probably better then buying a new car for three times the price eh?
The Mk4 supra Turbo is a nice one to own, but buying one right now at 25K is a serious joke for a 10+ years old car regardless of how good the supra is.
I would like one myself but not willing to spend that much for a 10+ years old supra.
Gotta say I love my MKII even when the clutch was slipping it was like sex on wheels. Now with a new clutch and hydraulic system... I love it! Thinking some new shocks and struts over the winter though.
