If you get the bellhousing from a 1jz engine, yes, you can use that to mate an R154 to a 2j. 1jz was JDM only though they are getting easier to find here too. Driftmotion.com should be able to help you source one, and are well known in the supra world for JZ swap parts and info.

isnt a bellhousing part of the transmission so i have to find one that was on a 1jz to put it on a 2 jz? does that mean using the bellhousing from the 1jz and putting it on the transmission from whatever car i get in this case the 86 supra i mentioned?

It is the chunk of aluminum between the engine and transmission that houses the clutch parts. It is a separate part though you usually find them still attached to the transmission.

You would remove the 7M housing from your R154 transmission, install the JZ one and bolt it to the engine. Only works for the R154. You could use the W58 transmission though from the normally aspirated MA70 and use the 2jz W58 bellhousing to attach it as well, but the R154 is by a long shot the superior gearbox.

Clutch will be a 1JZ clutch as I remember, but it might not...never done the swap myself. The source for your bellhousing should be able to tell you which combination to use.

ok thanks for clearing things up yea i read about the w58 not being able to handle as much hp or torque as the r154 i think putting a jz engine would just simply be too much workfor me i mean the r154 and 1jz are pretty hard to find online as it is i can find a 2jz from a lexus but thats about it i think im leaning more towards a 6mge hybrid now lol thatll probably be out of my reach but my sisters bf has a degree from wyo tech and hes offered to do a tranny swap for free so im not really worried about paying for a mechanic its just so overwhelming how i have to find parts from different years of different cars that arent readily available all the time to successfully do a engine and tranny swap

Hi, I've got a 2jz in my 80 toy pickup, I've used the ma60 w-58, and the Ma70 w-58. just change the bell housing to the 2jzge bell housing, all the clutch components are the same except the release bearing. Don't give up on the w-58 trans, I've had good luck with them
