Buying 87 Supra Turbo, Mods?

I am about to purchase a babied 87 Supra Turbo 5 speed. HG was done last year (caught early), and the car is mechanically excellent. I am looking to do some mild mods, and am looking for opinions. I don't want to upgrade the fuel system, and I won't be doing any racing. From what I've read, it appears as though a good downpipe and cat-back exhaust are in order, as well as an intake and upgraded BOV. What can I expect in terms of boost/power increases from these mods? Will I need a boost controller if this is all I am doing? Your input is greatly appreciated.

Dave

the exhaust, d/p, and air intake will give you an extra couple of psi, or roughly 20-30hp. you will be able to feel it, but it won't knock your socks off.

you should also consider some form of boost control, whether it is a 5-10dollar manual bleeder valve made up of scrounged parts from cdn tire, or an electronic one costing up to 800cdn.

either way, you will be able to up the boost from 5.75(stock) to 12psi. with a well running engine, you should be able to get 300hp flywheel(260rwhp)

this setup has been tried and tested time and time again. it is a very stable way to run these engines. stay below 12psi, always allow cool down time for the turbo, change the oil at 5k miles regularily, and the engine and turbo will last many thousands of kilometers.

my 1987 turbo supra had 450,000kms on the original block, and the turbo has400,000kms on it. both look brand new on the inside.

Thanks, that's great advice. So I will also buy a cheap boost controller. At 12 psi, I shouldn't hit boost cut-off, should I? I don't want to have to bypass that. What is a good, cheap boost guage that can replace the stock one? Thanks,

Dave
