Post 88 Supra Questions

I have an '88 non-turbo Supra. I am having some problems with it. When I first start it up it is idleing rough and blowing black smoke. This problem usually stops once the car is put into gear and i start to accelerate. Over the past few days it has been dying out of nowhere either when just sitting idleing or as soon as I hit the gas from a stop. It appears to be getting to much or not enough gas. I was thinking it could be the oxygen sensor but any input that anyone has would be great. Im sure someone has had a similar problem or at least heard this before. I have had it in to a mechanic who couldnt tell me the problem....Alright thanks for your time.

doesn't sound like BHG. No overheating, no loss of coolant, etc?
