Hey, i just bought an 87 supra with 76000 miles. The head gasket has never been replaced. When do you think it will need to be, whats a good one to use and how much to buy it and get it installed?
If the car is turbo it is more likely to go at any given time. N/A's are less likely to pop, but it's not unheard of.
Depending on the plans for the car, it's not a half bad idea to just pull the head, get it machined, install a stock head gasket, and use ARP hardware to secure the head. For a stock motor, or nearly stock this will sustain it just fine as long as the work was properly done.

Hg- $50-$100
Machining - $100-$400
ARP Hardware - $90
Your time - $Weekend - $Week
If you have a shop do it, I don't have a clue. Your best bet is to call around to shops and Toyota and price all the stuff. Hardware, Stock HG, and such.

In fact, they won't get it right, but will pillage your ass for the price...$1200 CDN without machining for a HG, and they will only torque to TSRM spec 56 ft/lbs. Needs to be 70-75 ft/lbs to give you a rest of the engines stock life seal.
DIY or find a trusted local mechanic. Probably no more than 800-1000CDN all in if there's little work to do.
