87 TURBO, ONLY 44,000 MILES ON HER. STARTED TO LOSE POWER ON THE INTERSTATE , PULLED OVER ONLY TO FIND THE BACK TWO INJECTORS ON FIRE ! ALL PLASITC LINKAGE PARTS AND WIRING IN THE BACK MELTED. HARNESS LOOKS OK . ANY IDEAS AS TO WHAT CAUSED THIS. I COULD JUST REPLACE THE PARTS BUT WHAT CAUSED IT ???
There are O ring on the injectors that go on towards the top of the injectors, the side that goes into the actual fuel rail. Make sure those o rings are intact and not leaking out gasoline. Those do go bad but only during poor injector installation.
Expect Wiring harness damage for the fire being in that area of the car. As for the cause, those O rings Krypto posted about are commonly dried out and can cause leakage.

Who came up with this 500px wide BS?
Thanks to Krypto and Jeeves, After inspection of the fire wall I found a heavy gage wire burned. Looks to be 10 or 12 ga Running from the center of fire wall to the right side and down to the underside This may be the start of the problem.
I think my dealer and insurance company will take care of this.
Thanks again .
AS FOR MR. REPINs, WHY WASTE YOUR TIME WITH NOTHING CONCTRUCTIVE TO OFFER ??.
Because CAPS LOCK sucks. Turn that crap off, no one appreciates it
Hmm, I don't know what line would be entering the center of the firewall... the ECM/ECU harness goes through the passenger side. The only line I can think of that's close to that line is the large +12vdc starter line.

The only thing going down behind the head towards the transmission is the transmission shift cable for auto trannys. That is only the shift cable and does not contain any form of a current. That is not the cause of your problem...that is the result of your initial problem.
The cable in question ,I belive, was for the fuel door release. It is made of steel brade plastic coated. I think your correct it is the result of the fire. Closer inspection shows plug wires and boots on 5&6 were burned to dust. This burning is what melted all the plastic parts on the gas linkage. At this time she is at the dealers. Could have replaced what was burned but without knowing why I could do it all over again.
Thanks again , The adjuster will be there Thursday I'll let you no.
Perhaps the throttle or the cruise control cables. They are wire inside plastic, and in the area. Speedo cable is near by too. Again, none carry electricity. They probably burned in the fire, but were not the source.
Dealer called, Fould the following:
Bad plug wire plus ,perhaps mouse nest and or some oil between the valve covers.
Faulty wire set oil or nest to blaze . Repair cost to be arround $1,500. + Car is in storage most of the time and sees little use. This time of year in this part of the country everything is looking for winter digs. Infact I found dog food up under the dash of another car I store on a lift all winter. Found it when I hit the brakes one spring day food ran all over the floor. I put moth balls every where each year to keep them out ,little to late this year.
Thanks for all your help.
