A friend of mine at work told me that a friend of his has a STOCK MKiii 1991 Supra Turbo,.. and that the Mk3 has the same engine as the Mk4, the 2JZ-GTE engine.

That can be answered with a simple..... no

(although I wish my baby had a 2JZ - sniff sniff)

The MKIII Turbo comes with a 7MGTE (still an inline 6)

nope, the stock turboed engine for mk3's in North America is the 7M-GTE, and for the mk4, it is the 2JZ-GTE.

for non-turbo versions, simply drop the "T" from each engine code.

The mk3's in other markets like europe and japan also had different engines, one being the 2.5l 1JZ-GTE twin turbo, and a 2.0l 1GE-GTE single turbo. The 7M-GTE was the biggest and most powerful choice of the mk3 supra engines offered.

I thought the 1JZ (minus the 2JZ) has the most potential?

the 1JZGTE put out 280hp...beating the 7M's best of 232hp

And as far as I've heard the 1JZ isn't plagued by the good ol 7m BHG problems. The 1JZ has the same cast iron block config and oil squirters as the 2JZ...making it a better choice to run high HP numbers (600 and better) that and it revs to a higher redline 7500 as apposed to the 7000 on the 7M

It's true on the BHG issue with the 1JZ. It was introduced in japanese and euro(unsure) markets because of the notorious BHG issue with the 7M engine. Damn N/A!
