Talking Diffrence Between 5m/7mgte

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HELP.

I HAVE TWO OTHER QUESTIONS ....... FOR PUTTING THE TURBO ON THE 5M...... CAN I JUST TAKE MY TURBO/INERCOOLER/INTAKE MANIFOLD OFF THE 7M AND PUT IT ON THE 5M?
WHAT DOSE THE 7MGTE HAVE THATS DIFFRENT FROM THE 5M BESIDES THE TURBO KIT. IT JUST HAS BIGGER PISTONS RIGHT?

THANKS FOR YOU HELP

I'd imagine a good deal, but I don't have a 5m to compare. I highly doubt you can just bolt everything straight up.

5m and 7m have different heads, but the ports and studs line up on the exhaust side. There is a spot on the manifold that has to be ground out to fit the 5m, but other than that it is pretty much plug and play. Custom stuff I'm aware of: Water lines need to be made, as the 5m has no provision, oil feed needs to be thought through (spin on adapter) and you need to put in a drain back boss for the turbo oil outlet (weld a boss onto the pan). Downpipe has to be made custom as the 7m doesn't clear the firewall.

Now fuel and tuning, that is the tougher part. Celicasupra.com has a huge resource on turboing the 5m, and can help you there.

FYI, bore is the same on the 5m-ge, 6m-ge, 7m-ge, and the 7m-gte. Stroke is what is different from the 5m-ge's and all the others.

I'll list everything I initially acquired for the swap. I got the 7M-GTE ex manifold, turbo, BOV, intercooler, most of the intercooler piping, turbo inlet accordian hose, and the 3000 pipe (intake).

I welded a union to the oil pan for the turbo oil drain. The oil feed came from the oil pressure sending unit port, in which I tee'd from with a brass 1/8" NPT tee. The lines are AN #4 for feed and AN #10 for drain (they were fabbed at a local hardware store).

Coolant can be tapped in at the throttle body (not the neatest looking method, but it works well)

The factory injectors aren't sufficient for boost, so I robbed some yellow top 295cc injectors from a 7m-ge (you'll need the pigtails). You'll have to tighten the AFM at least 10 clicks (you'll have to read the mod 'how to') to idle at a decent A/F ratio.

Stock fuel pump will be OK for stock boost (7psi)

A pic taken after the Greddy type S was installed. Note the crappy hose routing.
