Angry looking to buy 1989 supra with 7m-gte

ok so this is where i am at.
-i am looking at a 1989 supra that needs a lot of TLC, but everything is there, the engine is a 7m-gte with 40k on it, it also has a 20lb boost turbo straped to it with a manual tranny, and it needs a new body kit and some paint not a big deal, but the reason why i am putting this thread out is because i don't know what i am getting my self into. i will give you the low down on the car and if you can tell me any history about this car, like bad things that happend, or projects that you have done, or something that is hidden in the car(a.k.a rust spots ect.)

-i found this car a couple weeks ago, it's a 1989 supra with the 7mgte with 20lb turbo, like i said that body needs some tlc,cuz is't been sitting for 2 years, but my main concern is the engine, what can i do to get it up to factory/ high preformance specs, because i would love to be able to turn this supra into a sleeper/street racer.

-price isn't really a problem with me cuz i am and 18year old making about 35 grand a year, and still living with my rents for another 2 years till i am out of college, so that doesn't consern me, i just don't want to go balls deep into this car and have it not worth it in the end, so any feed back that would make my day... thanks

What is a "20lb turbo"? That doesn't mean anything. The stock turbo won't flow 20PSI on the 7mgte. So you may want to look into what the turbo actually is. With all likelyhood the turbo is just a stock CT26 turbo.

On factory bottom end they can make 500rwhp with a good amount of work. Beyond that they need internals and such. The stock turbo won't be good for that much obviously.

If you could get a photo, it'd do wonders.

Arrow Jeeves take a look at this.....

hey jeeves thanks for the tip last night about me making that mistake on the turbo, i ment to say that it has 20psi, but that doesn't really botter me, if it is a stock turbo, how much can i get out of it like 10-15-20psi...but if you can tell me anything about this car, its a 1989 toyota supra with the 7mgte engine, but the car just needs some tlc so if you could give me any hits or anything in that nature that would be awsome. tanks again

The stock turbo CANNOT hit 20psi, where are you getting the impression it can? The Supra has a Fuel Cut off as 12psi. It runs out of efficency at about 16-18 if you remove the fuel cut. Even then, you can't flow enough fuel to safely use that high of a boost setting, nevermind the fact you'd have to have a Fuel Cut removal device installed on the car...

if the car is running at 20psi, than it probably already has EXTENSIVE mods done.. Who told you it was runnin 20 psi?

based on the info given, I REALLY suggest going back and finding out more about the car.. If it had any mods done to it, if so, what? You'l want to know if the engine has ever been rebuilt or replaced, or any major engine work.. look for any choppy or make shift modifications.. Before you buy it, have a compression check or leak down test done.. Need more info about the car before we can give you any helpful advice..

get on all the supra forums and READ READ READ

Take your time and look for a better one. Also, try to find one that's not modded(stock).
