Fuel Cut kicks in at 12psi to prevent you from running more boost than the fuel system can handle. This is a protection mechanism. The fuel system cannot supply enough fuel to meet what the motor requires. So, to prevent the motor from leaning out and destroying itself, it kicks out spark for a second. This jolts the car (You know the feeling) and basically is just the warning to not do that.

If you're smart, you don't remove it.

I'm not going to tell you how to get rid of it.

isn't there some sort of balanced approach to tuning those cars? one of these days I'd wanna get one, and I'd definately wanna play around with it...

is there like a 'stage 1,2,3' approach like I think the WRXes have?

as far as the fuel cut thing is concerned, I've ran into that on another turbo car I've owned and I do concur in that it is conspicuously perceptable.

there is a method to the madness behind the fuel cut off: for one, the car is only built to go so fast. 2. that little pinwheel inside a turbo, under normal conditions, spins between 30,000-180,000rpm (depending on the car, of course) if you have circumvented the wastegate controller of the stock ecu (if applicable) to get a higher boost, you run the risk of over reving the turbo which can cause it to leak oil (permanently) or - quite litteraly - to explode. 3. your may engine might also suffer an explosion if the air fuel ratio gets too high, which may happen if you run lean. Fuel pumps/injectors/systems have a maximum capacity which is always higher than what the stock-tuned car would require. However if the re-tuned engine demands more fuel than the system can deliver it will go lean, and that means the cylinders will detonate and will send shock waves throughout the engine, try to reverse the engine's direction - at full power - and all other sorts of havoc.

Has your engine ever made a gunshot-type sound? Or the sound of wrenches falling? You don't want auto to be begging you to stop, so just be careful and competant.

No. See, that all depends on the company. HKS (for instance) had a "stage 1, 2, 3,4, etc." upgrade path. However, it varies greatly and very few companies now make a whole line of parts for the Mk3.

Also, with the testing and stuff that's been done, most of the upgrade paths were wrong. There are some good recommendations over at SupraForums.com.

As for Fuel Cut, in the Supra's it's a fuel issue, not the turbo running outta steam.
