'87 supra n/a automatic help!!!!

for some time i have had problems with my '87 supra n/a auto. i had a feeling that it was my spark plugs, wires, dist. cap & rotor and/or fuel injectors so i took it to my mechanic on monday for a diagnostic. they comfirmed my assumptions and said they will change all of the plugs, wires and dist. cap & rotor and also my #4 injector and new seals/o-rings. on tuesday, i pick the car up and i test drive it. while driving the car it would take a while to shift into gear then finally jumps into gear but won't then downshift. i tell the mechanic WTF. you guys had to take off the Throttle body and Intake manifold to get to my injectors so you must of touched the throttle cable, right? they test drive it, adjust the cable but it still doesn't run right. they said it might also be a bad tranny governor. please help!!! my tranny was shifting good before i dropped it off. it's almost thursday and i still haven't gotten my car back. do you guys think that they are just f--king with me or do you think something else is wrong?

Did they adjust the kickdown mechanism? I don't know about Auto supras, but on Camry's there's a cable that controls the airflow to the transmission. If this was tightened/moved/poorly adjusted it could cause similiar symptoms.

Other than that, I don't know but it should be 100% covered by the shop, it was damaged/broke while under their care.

thanks for your input. i am not sure if they adjusted the kickdown mechanism but they were the last people to touch the car so they better not charge me. i am demanding to see some broken parts or proof if they try to make me pay for this. this really sucks!!

I dont know much about the n/a's, but is it possible the TPS was moved slightly or misadjusted while they had the throttlebody off?

Possible, yes, but the TPS itself will only slightly control the kickdown (specifically active around WOT) not in the mid-range. Hence, I don't believe the TPS would do much to the transmission if it were out of calibration.

you can check your tps with an ohmeter or a labscope. also a misalligned tps will show the ignition timing to be over advanced because the ecu thinks the throttle is open. .2 to .8 milli ohms at ilde. goodluck
