Canada 82 backup lights problem; 4 Sale?

Backup Light Problem.

Please help me locate a wiring diagram or otherwise help me get my backup lights working in my 1982 Supra. It's stopping me from passing my safety inspection to get my Supra back on the road.

I tried to post my Supra for sale, twice, but it never got posted. Am I not allowed to post for sale?

Robert.

re: Factory Service Manual.

I got a ride to the library late this afternoon and borrowed the Haynes manual, "TOYOTA CELICA SUPRA 1979 thru 1992". It is also devoid of mention of a backup light, nor have their indices nor wiring diagrams a backup light.

It seems ludicrous to me.

In desperation, I examined every wiring diagram, in the "Haynes" manual, until I found one with the rear window defogger and backup light. What a strange combination.

It shows an arrow naming the neutral start "S/W" and a backup light "S/W". I don't have any idea where that switch would be located. I couldn't find it under the console, after spending an hour or more dissembling it.

The diagram from the Inet site shows a different motor and, I suspect, a manual transmission. Mine is an automatic. I don't think I have a separate backup light on my transmission. The local dealer's partsman thinks it may be part of the insanely-expensive, neutral safety switch, for my automatic. He has nothing on his computer, that far back, to be sure.

If I can do nothing else, I may try to wire in a manual switch, if I can find the correct wire to the lights. I may have to run one all the way from the battery to the back.

Any other suggestions?
