MKIII supra handling capabilities? like tanks?

How capable are these cars in road racing and other racing that involves cornering? I heard that they were like tanks. What are their handling capabilities?

is 'like tanks' good? tanks weigh 120,000 pounds, and probably don't corner on rails

You know what I mean. Also, do the 89+ supras come with mechanical or electronic speedometers?

I know for a fact that MK3 supras handle well .All you need is some BFGoodrich R1s or any of the team T/A compitetion tires I autocrossed a N/A(normally asperated)supra for a number of years and have the trophys to prove it .I have beaten cars like the Mustang GT.with a inline six supra.People on the track thought it was a B.P.car (MODIFIED)when it was just my G.S.(G stock)supra. They handle well with comp.tires!!

Busy,
I think you'd find you're incorrect. Without some add-ons, these cars are shit unless you've got a hard top stripper model. Chassis flex is horrible, and turning the ~4,000lb beast around a corner is not well done.

There's a reason there was only ever ONE rally Mk3 Supra.

The Speedo's are mechanical. If you look under the car on the passenger side, you might be able to see the cable coming out of the transmission.

One of the reasons I did well is the car had a really good pax time(handi cap )a reduction in overall time.

I also ran a twin turbo 94 rx7(super stock)and a 96 cobra( F stock)and although the supra didnt do as well I thought it did OK for being about 100 H.P.les than the other two cars I drove.

Having a sizeable handicap does not equate to a car being good, if anything that means it's worse!

so how much does the mark iii really weigh anyways? I've driven one before, but that was like 10 years ago. I was thinking about getting another "toy" car if and when I can afford it and I'm weighing the following cars: GT 5.0 (I hate LX's with a passion), straight-body camaro iroc, mark 3 supra.

I'm thinking that the gt would be better than the camaro just because there might be more equipment available for it. The mark iv is really nice, I remember seeing them at the dealership back in the days. The guys said it could go 180, but they were limited to 150. I remember that the sticker price was like 53k or something and that's just way expensive for a non-lexus toyota.

they are rather good at handling stock, i will be running mine this spring and summer so i will let you know how it goes, but just driving the car right now it easily handles better than my 240sx did, and the 240 is a pretty light weight car... Although I do have a Hardtop/NA as well... so i dont have a problem with chassis flex

Stock Mk3's come in anywhere between 3600lbs (Hard Top, no ABS, stripper model) -> 3800lbs+ (Turbo, ABS, Targa, fully loaded). They really are tanks.

Ironically, the MX83 Cressida (7M-GE), with a chassis that apparently flexes less upon hard cornering (don't confuse this with more grip, lol), is rated at 3417lbs as per Toyota.

I thought it was 3400lbs NA, 3600lbs turbo?

I personally weighed my near stock Mk3 (No Abs, targa, sport package). W/O Me and w/1/2 tank of gas: 3860lbs.

Yeah, I don't trust those numbers at all.

yeah the cars are tanks.. Personally, I Love the way my Supra handles stock.. Mind you im comparing it to my 91' Camaro Z28, that handles like a shopping cart.. with a bad wheel..

But ive never raced the car, and when the roof is off, it does feel like its gonna bend in half.. This summer I haveto work on the suspension..
