I love my auto..

I wonder why everyone hates Auto supras??? They can hold a decent amount of power (not as much as the manual though) and I think autos are faster.. Stock for stock, ive never lost to a manual mk3..

A manual transmission will always be faster than a automatic. Because you lose more power through the auto. But if the person driving the manual dosn't know how the auto will get it because it is stomp and go pretty much. I like them both auto for just cruzing, but my 87 supra turbo is a manual and wouldn't want it any onther way.

Dax, that's a ridiculously stupid blanket statement. If you researched, there are several cars on the market that (being automatics) shift MUCH faster than their Manual counterparts AND clock in quicker 0-60 and 1/4 miles times.

Yes, more power is lost typically through an automatic drive train, but that doesn't mean they'll always be slower.

As for the Mk3's. The Auto's will hold less power than the R154 (5spd manual) and they're slower in shifting, however they can still be made fast as well.

yeh, what the hell?
sure, tq converters suck up a lot of power, but they'll still shift a hell of a lot faster than Joe Monkey on the manual. & besides, if you're making a shitload of power, who cares how much of it is robbed by your tranny.

When it's a large percentage, I would. If I dumped $10,000+ on a car, I'd not want my transmission hogging bits of HP that I paid and worked my ass off to get.

Frankly, I don't like Autos. They put me to sleep. They're good for stop and go driving and bracket racing. That's about it imho.

Not always. They shift slower in most cars.

I cant see your average manual driver shifting anywhere near as fast as my auto trans w/ect on.. Also, an automatic drivetrain draws a little more horsepower than a manual but who cares? The torque converter will more than make up for it.. for the first few feet of travel the converter multiplies available torque by as much as two times. so a car with 300lbsft will launch with up to 600lbsft of force. this quickly goes away but is usefull non the less.

sure manuals are fun but, when it comes down to it, I would rather be at the end of the track than sittin there playin with my stick all day.

ECT doesn't do anything for shifting speed. According to Toyota (I can pull PDF's if you request), the ECT button only controls shift points, and how much throttle it takes to downshift, etc.

You can launch much better in a manual, controlling where to let out, etc. Without having to drop money into a one RPM only torque converter. As for your 600lbs of torque, I'd like to see your proof on that. I've seen LOTS of cars Dyno'd and there is never a 2x spike at the beginning. Besides that, I've launched my Auto Camry and I own a 300+rwtq Supra. There is on way on a launch the Camry has more instantaneous torque. I'd like to see your proof of this.

Then you should go watch people shift. I can outshift most automatics. I can certainly outshit my 6 year younger Camry (even with the shift speed increased under the hood)...

Poor shifters may have trouble doing it, but I'm nothing special.

I have an auto and I think it's how you drive it. pressing the gas pedal at a precise timing and knowing when your shifting points on the transmission. I use O/D and it still is fast. It's I drive!
