hey does anybody know what is the best way to go about building a 1jz block non-vvti into a '87 body, besides upgrading to one big single turbo what should i put in my block to insure durabililty, quality, and consistancy and it would be a real big help if anyone would send me some combos and recipes with some torque specs and assembly methods. also does anybody know if the toyota factory repair manual of the 2jz coincides with the 1jz. i've been searching for a 1jz repair manual but can't find an english written one
The best way is to get an 89+. There is a Toronto Supra Club member doing an 88 now, and he is quite happy he got the clip rather than the engine. Much of the subframe needs swapping, mounts are very different, wiring is farther different from the 91/92 cars, major wiring harness additions etc. Many stick to the stock twins, though there are a couple of kits. Check Supraforums and Supramania.com for more information on 1j conversions.
My next mod on my N/A 89 Supra is the 1jz-gte swap rather than buying just the motor I am going to order a full front clip and do the whole conversion right hand drive and all. The mechanic at the performance shop that I go to has done the swap for my buddy Parker here In Fort Walton Beach. He says it is a great swap Triple Seven Performance did a good job and they only charged him 5200usd for the complete swap clip and all. It was very clean and the mech said it is actually easier for him to do the swap when doing the whole conversion because the wiring harness does not have to be fabricated.

i hear what your saying but this is my situation right now, i already have the 1jz block on a work stand but i don't trust the block itself so what i wanna do is freshen up the block from top to bottom and put some strong and durable internal parts example like thicker gaskets port and polish head that's the kind of input i'm looking for and as far as the computer goes i'm gonna run a stand alone. strengthening the block for abuse is what i'm looking for
So, you're going to spend $5,200 to get 280hp? Doesn't make sense to me personally.
hey jeeves i'm a new member and i been watching a lot of the ideas you've been giving from thread to thread and i must say they're real great, you have any good 1/4 mile recipes for a 1jz block? and do you have assembly methods and specs?

If you don't have most of the clip parts from the front subframe to swap over, you're not mounting it in an 87...nothing lines up. The braces and mounts are all very different. It may be fresh when you're done, but it's going to be on a stand without those parts.

Nope.
I'm not going the 1JZ route. While many people love the smooth power band the twins give and the 280hp it lays down, I can't see spending that much for 280hp.
However, what the other user said about obtaining a front clip is 100% true. That's the best method to go. With just the engine you're lacking a lot of things.
When all else fails, more boost, lighter car, stronger cage.
