Question 7M - 5M Bellhousing Question

Is the bellhousing mounting pattern the same on 5M, 6M and 7M motors?

I'm looking for a junk 7M (5M, 6M ?) block to use for a jig to make up a custom bellhousing. All I need is that the rear mounting face and the main bearing bores be OK. Basically I'm trying to make a welding jig to hold the front half of a 7MGE bellhousing and the rear half of a 22R-TE bellhousing to gether so I can weld them together and then mount an R151F truck transmission behind a 7M motor and mount all that in my first generation 4runner.

I'm in southeastern Wisconsin, near Milwaukee and Chicago. So the closer the better. Thanks -- Matt

5M/6M/7M transmissions interchange, so I say yes.

HOT DIGITY! That's what I thought. A local breaker has an '85 Cressida with a blown motor that I can have cheap. The 5M motor mounts, oil pan and oil pump pickup may come in handy for my swap. And, since I'm new to the M series motors I'll get some experience inside one. Thanks -- Matt

Watch out, it depends on what you need. '85-'88 5M Cressidas (and '89-'92 7M models, for that matter) are front-sump.

Factory 6M-GEs and Supra 7M's (and JDM Soarer motors) are mid-sump. I forget whether or not the MKII 5M is front/midsump.

It'd probably be best to go with the same sump setup as what you've got in the 4Runner now (I have no clue what that'd be)

The sump on my 4runner is at the rear. The 7mge and 7mgte are to the rear in the MKIII Supra too aren't they?

My next concern has to do with the 5M motor mounts. It's pretty well established that the 5M Supra motor mounts attach to the 7M block in a more forward position than the 7M mounts and that they bolt right up to the 22RE truck, frame half, of the motor mount, AND that they put the M block exactly where it needs to be in the truck and 4runner engine bay! Toyota's consistency is awesome!

The local Toyota dealer tells me that the 5M Cressida mounts are the same part numbers as the 5M MKII Supra motor mounts. So, hopefully, I'll get those off of the donor Cressida.

I can't wait to go to my first Supra rally with my 7MGTE powered 4runner! -- Matt
