7MGTE Valve adjustment & ISC valve

Hey all Supra fans, I just found this board. I am a veteran owner of an 85 MkII and I have just a few weeks ago purchased a 1992 Supra Turbo with 56,000 miles on it. Its like a new car except for a couple of minor issues.

The valves clack, some people have told me that they need adjustment, others say that it needs to have an engine flush and remove varnish that has built up in the oil gallies and in the valve cover area.

My car also idles a bit high after its warmed up, around 1000 rpm. I have read in the manual about the ISC idle speed motor which sets the idle, its says how to check and replace it but not anything about how to reset it. I've seen and done reset procedures on other cars, (caddys for instance) that used this kind of motor.

Congradulations on the purchase.

Valves are adjusted by replacing shims. Measure, compare to spec, and replace those out of spec. Time consuming, but not hard. Often, it is injector noise mistaken for the valves as for some reason, they are particularly noisy on the supra.

There is no reset. They can be cleaned in case there is carbon build up, and you might check the dashpot adjustment to ensure the throttle is closing completely. Outside of that, you may have a small gasket or vac line leak.
