Personaly I like the gen 3 much more. Its a beatyful can yet moddest. The Gen 4 is to flashy for me not to mention so popular these days. If its been in a full lenght movie i think its become somewhat of a trend.
Sorry if this post has come up before just wanted to get the opinion of everybody
Personally i belive the mk3 is much better suited for drag racing, and high speed runs than the mkiv. the only thing i see the mkiv having superior to the mk3 is the drivetrain, easily fixed with the ever so popular 1jz, or my personal fav, the 1.5jz hybrid. the mk3 has better interior space, better head room, more cargo space, longer wheel base, and they share the same width, the mk3 does have a longer wheelbase making the car more stable at higher speeds, also better for launching and weight transfer. as well as the market behind both cars, the mk3 can be made to go just as fast as the mkiv for alot less invested. 1j swapped, the 7m can do it but good luck keeping it on the road.
the mkiv personally is for the guys who want the status, not the performance. if you wanted performance you could spend alot less and get a mk3 either build up the 7m, swap in the 1j, 1.5j, or even the 2j and start from there. i could have a 10sec 7M-GTE mk3 for the price you can find a run down high mileage turbo auto mkiv for. so i guess its really a personal preferance.

Well, sorry to say....it's mkiv for me. I've loved that car ever since I was little (12 years old), when it came out in 93. It's responsible for my appeal/love of imports. Sexy sexy car hahaha. It's looks and twin turbocharged engine was a big change to my appeal in american muscle. Based on looks alone, I would have to say mkiv. I've never driven a mkiii so I can't make a comparison about peformance. Just my opinion.
You need to drive one that has been properly tuned and some mods done and then tell me that. Not to mention why you say sexy sexy sexy its no 80's supercar is it. Im not really ragging on your car but i love mine 87 Turbo Targa w/upgraded turbo. couldnt ask for more.
I've got Mk3 love, but I can't turn down a nice, black, widebody, wingless Mk4.
On top of that, the mk4 is practically overplayed with it's 'fame' in TF&TF. Since then every person that saw the movie was like "I've always liked them." When in fact it was hugely responsible for their popularity explosion.

Who came up with this 500px wide BS?
Well in MK II III or IV it always comes down to the things that everything else deos, money, availabilty and personality. If you were a kid in the 80's and saw those old Toyotas when they were new, owning one now is very nostalgic. The MK II and III's even IV's to some extent all had a lineage of evolution in their engine and body style. You don't get that kind of continuity in cars as much today. Some models start and stop on 3-5 year cyles and Toyota deos not make any true performance based cars anymore that have that recurrant theme. Things just change so fast these days there isn't as much profit in the affordable sports coupe. That's why they tried to make the Supra a supercar, beceause the 86-92 run was at the end of its cyle, plus the SUV craze killed the Supra and sport coupes as a whole
I bought an 85 MkII L type to save some money while I was in a pinch.....bought it as a junker/beater and it ended up being a superb car, but unfotunaltley too run down to restore on my budget (it still running) I love those late 80's Supras, but since there are few left that aren't ragged and/or overpriced when I found a 92 for 8k with 58k on the odo which is basically just the same as the 86.5 with a few things tweaked around, I though it was a good compromise and snapped it up, and I'm very glad. I still wish it had the same solid nature and responsiveness as my 85 MkII, those were some quality cars for what they were. But all Supras as very silky and reliable cars despite their pitfalls.
SO far i would say the Mk3 cause i used to own one .... now that car was a head turner 232hp 254 torque fully loaded with a targa top that was nice and it was fast as hell.... i have yet to drive the mk4 but so far the mk3 is my choice
Im down with the MKiii crowd, as my girlfriend put it "The newer ones are girl cars", shes basing this on looks of course, and on that, im with her. Seriously i got one of my dream cars for 1900$, word.
