does anyone know how to vent the BOV to the atmosphere??? I love the sound my stock BOV makes but I want that sound to be directly to the atosphere and not contained the way it is (currently you really have to listen for it). A friend with a R33 skyline told me his has the stock BOV modded to release in the atmosphere, but i thought i'd ask you supra folk first...
anyone done this before? or know about it...

All you would have to do is remove your recirculation pipes from the BOV to the intake piping... and plug the hole in the intake piping.
BUT!!!..... I know on MR2's it will cause you to run rich... I'm sure its the same on the Supra. You are venting unmetered air into the atmosphere... so the computer will inject extra fuel the match the air that isn't entering the intake system. Lots of people do it though. Kinda a waste of gas.
thanks just played with it, it does work, but causes it to run rich like you said and spluttered a little which didnt sound too healthy. I'll look into a new adjustable BOV i think, monza make one that sounds pretty good, get a recirculate plumb back kit to have the best of both worlds (it has 2 stages, first for just the noise and the second for releasing boost pressure).
BTW for the americans Monza is one of our turbo performance part makers, most of there stuff is 99% identical to HKS without the price tag for the brand name.

I'm surprised...our BOV is constant open when the throttle is closed, meaning all sorts of unmetered and unfiltered air should be getting in...shouldn't run at all, but sputtering heavily indicates it's not quite right...
I had a atmosphere only valve on my car when i bought it and it made it backfire during shifting(rich running) i put a forge BOV and recirculated it back throught the stock tube and it is f***ing loud. they are some of my friends that have a 600+hp audi and i think they are around $150 for the vavle alone but its quite simple. Look up Avalonmotorsports.com they are the ones i got it from they are here in colorado so if need be i can give them ur information. check into it the forge BOV is loud even w/ recirculation.
I posted on this a bit back, it's quite common for this to occur. The air metering is done BEFORE the blow off valve. So, when the BOV dumps, it's dumping air that the engine thinks it is getting. Since it expects _____CFM of air, it injects fuel to match. When there's less air, there's too much fuel and you run rich for that 1/4 of a second that the BOV is open. Once it closes and metering returns to normal, the car should run again.
Many Mk3's also don't have this problem. I reset my ECU after I installed it and never had a single stuttering problem.

Who came up with this 500px wide BS?
so if i plug the hole and disconnect the dohickey, then disconnect and reconnect the battery, ill get a cool sound and not run rich? and will my tape deck stop working too?(stupid anti-theft system thing)
o well i see now i couldnt understand what ur trying to say in that post now i get it. dude if u get a nice recirculating valve like mine you can hear it almost as good and not ever have to worry about the running rich. Forge BOV that way to go man!!!!

Pulling your EFI fuse should also reset your ECU. Works on both of my cars.
