Umm, Never heard that. Sure, your synchros should be in good shape and banging through grinding synchros is bad, but I've never heard that before...

Actually, if you want to sacrafice your shifter, you can turn it into a short-er shifter. It doesn't make it short throw however.

friend of mine advised me against getting one, said he didn't get one in his zx until he had the tranny rebuilt, i kinda figure in my mkiii at least, its already fairly hard to shift sometimes, maybe my sychro is bad?

a short shifter is no different from a regular shifter if ur shifting normally, i mean sure the throw travels less, but it doesn't affect your tranny in any negative way. the only way it affects it is it makes u wanna push on it :-D...therefor, pushing will occur, and the slamming of gears...ur friend was smart in rebuilding his tranny b4 installing a shifter only if it was messed up in tha first place, otherwise, it doesn't change n e thing. if u want, a guy around me has a shifter, he told me he'd cut it for whoever for 30 bux...i already bought one, he hasa buncha shifters lyin around...so if u want it lemme kno and ill give u his #
peace

I could simply pull it out, chop it, & thread it but that is not what I had in mind. I was looking for different internal linkage. I guess there isnt any?

What you just described is called the SOGI Short Shifter mod. Been around forever and a day. Be aware that it will make transmission noise and vibrations much more noticable in the cabin. Some people love it, some hate it. And no, there's no linkages to change because that mod just makes it a short shifter, it doesn't actually change the throw any.

I figured that was the case. I have done it before it makes a bit of difference. I would rather have the real thing than a weekend hack job. Oh well.
