I just got a 1990 supra from, my cousin, but there is one problem with the engine, its blown, i was wondering if any of you knew a place where i could find one, i had the 7m-gte, the stock turbo, but i would like the same engine, but if i could find the 1jz-gte i would not turn it down, so if anyone could help me that would be great, i live in central mass, so any distance does not bother me, thanks
www.ebaymotors.com has a few engines...there is a dillemna with tha 7m's in this area right now, most importing japanese engines tell me they hav a shortage of 7ms, meaning u wait a lil longer than planned or u get a different engine, but as many on tha forum hav said...the 1j is not ur best but, cus as bgreiger said, its a back-order nightmare...u'll b waiting for parts, and its a pretty expensive swap, cus u need wiring harness/ ecu/ tranny/ etc. etc. so ur best bet is finding a 7m, if ur not 2 far from toronto, or ontario canada, u can get an engine offa ebay for around 750, and pick it up....or pay another 550 for shipping? I will hav 2 agree wit bgreiger and jeeves though, tha 1z isn't tha smartest move...i'd go 2j
* - I've heard the best things about Jarco, but they sold for about twice the cost of the other places. Jarco hot runs the engine, replaces seals and timing belt and headgasket, though, so thats some extra value right there, and I've heard nothing but good about them. The typical quote from Jarco was like $1800 shipped, while soko was more like $800.

Who came up with this 500px wide BS?
soko has one coming in on friday this month....thats mine :-D....its 950...i dunno if theres different sokos all over tha place, but tha one in il is tha 1 im gettin it from.
i know that the 1jz is hard to find, but if i can't come across it, its alright, im just looking for the 7m, which still is fine, i can't go wrong with it, i found the 7m, that was pretty easy, i found it at Wild Card Performance, anyone deal with them or heard anything, good or bad. They have the engine for $995, whihc i think is pretty good and the engine is garuanted to have around 40-65 thousand miles, whihc is pretty good, cause toyotas last for ever, i was just wondering if anyone knew any good places where i could get the swap done, stock for stock, around the new england area, im just looking for it to get installed, so if anyone could help me, thanks
I just called them and they offered to install the motor for $1800 with the engine with only 50,000 miles on it, all sensors and the harness, but i forgot to ask about the tranny, the car has 169,000 miles on it, would it be a smart idea to keep that tranny or get a used one? and alos what about the rear end, drive shaft axels?? or should they still be good
Finding a 1j is a joke...installing one...lets just say you likely won't see your car again this summer if you're trying this for the first time, or are not paying to have it done.
yeah i forgot to say i found the 7m-gte, well the guy bumped up the price from 1000- for the engine to 1400, he said the engine he had has only 35000miles on it and that the head has been competely rebuilt, its warrentied for 120 days, and he is charging 800 for the install, is that a good price or am i getting ripped off, i really don't know how much the engines go for but if you guys could help me that would be sweet, thanks again. ohh yeah he said he could get the 1jz for $2000 with 50,000miles and shipping would cost 500, and the install would be another $2000, so i said for get that, all i need to know if i should replace the rearend and the tranny cause the car has 169,000 miles, when i get the engine installed???
If he can show you the receipts and evidence that the work performed happened to this motor, and that that engine has that mileage from a bullet proof source, sure. Otherwise, treat it like it's a pick and pull special, and perhaps worth 1k. All the claims in the world mean nothing after day 120 here. Install price is going rate for a straight up swap. Nothing special.
I wouldn't jump on that deal. I'd want to see my face shine in the reflection of the head machining. On top of that, 35,000 miles? That sounds like your run of the mill JDM Motors that can be had for $700-$1000.
As for the 1jz... That's cheap.

yeah i would jump on the one jz but i go to college and i don't have that much money to invest on this, i am going to see the engine tomorrow morning which i would wanna see the engines head and everything,i mean everything after that 120 days won't be to big for me if something breaks i could fix it myself, i go to Wyo Tech i think that i could be able to fix the car up if anything were to happen, so i cold careless about the warrenty, this is my car for me to get me around here, go to work right down the street so my lazy ass don't need to walk, and something i can work on in school, im in just Auto Technology, then i move on to Chasis Fab, and High Performance Engines. then to Street Rod, So this will turn out into a sweet little project, i just don't wanna spend more than 3 granmd on the engine and install
