Getting a 12 & 53 engine error codes, could this be the cause of any knocking?

Hi

Thanks for all your time and efforts on my knocking thread, you have all been helpful!

I decided to try the 'paper clip' engine error test.... it came back with the following:

12 - RPM Signal - No 'NE' or 'G' signal to ECU within 2 seconds after engine has been cranked

53 - Knock control signal in ECU - Knock control program faulty

Could these cause the knocking, possibly due to timing being out in some way?
