7M-GTE or 1JZ-GTE in a MK2?

Hello,

I'm new to this forum. I'm a Celica(ST162) driver wanting to get away from FWD. And generally a newbie to the mechanics of a Supra. I'm looking at buying a MK2 Supra. I was wondering if a 7M-GTE or even a 1JZ-GTE could be swapped in the 5M's place without much hassle. Entirely sorry if this is a newbie question. Any info would be great.

Thanks!

They both CAN be done. I believe the 7M is an easier swap.

7mgte swap info:

1jz swap info:

2jz swap info:

Have fun reading

More at http://www.celicasupra.com/faq.htm and http://www.celicasupra.com/recipes.htm (that is where i pulled the info from )

I'd go with the 1JZGTE swap.. not quite a 2JZGTE.. but better than the 7MGTE.

yer, it's best reserved for replacing a tired, old, and dead 7M-GE.

But even then, you still have the 7M-GTE route.

It's also a pain to get parts for, incl. aftermarket. With the availability being what it is, I'd rather just run the 7M.

I think you're just suggesting Toyota engine codes w/no knowledge of work, money, or time required.
