Keeping My MKIII 7mge Running Cool
Well folks, I finally put my 20 year old idea to work on my car. You can too ! These cars always run hot when 'pushing' them, running the A/C, going up hills, etc. Well I seem to have solved my problem by adding a large (10"x15") transmission cooler to my "cooling system" (water). I put it on the front of the radiator (behind the A/C condensor). I hosed it to the 3/8" metal tubes that are normally hosed together with a 5" elbow. That is the coolant by-pass hose from water pump to thermostat housing.
My car has not climbed over half way on the gage since this install 2 weeks ago. I live in the Mojave desert in Calif. It's been 90-97* for the past 2 weeks. I run the A/C every time I drive. I also run a coolant mix of 65% anti-freeze. This raises the boiling point of the system.
I calculated that I gained 50% more 'radiator' with this setup.
