Is there no way that this ECU could work?

Hi

I have been told that this does not work but i have an ecu from a manual to fit in an auto... i have the standard auto ecu too..... accept the one from the scrap/doner manual is a reprogramed superchips ltd ecu and i would love to run this as i belive them to be rather good

Please someone tell me if it could work?

ALSO THE ENGINE IS OUT OF A MANUAL (THE SAME ONE AS THE ECU) - THAT IS NOW BOLTED IN THE AUTO.

Kindest Regards

Ross Stewart

I believe the auto ecu can work on the manual but not the manual on the auto. I think the auto's shiftpoints are programmed into the auto ecu. So when you use it on a 5 speed it just ignores the shiftpoints. a 5 speed ecu has no shiftpoints so you can't use it on an auto.

Thanks for the reply

I have decided (for about the 5th time) to convert to the manual..... i have stripped the brake peddle and clutch, braket and cylinder, these are a simple bolt-on.

I need to splice some wiring for the clutch sensor thingy - anyone had any exp with doing this? also an obvious question, but the ect will need removing? Have i missed anything?

Cheers

Rosco

PS - called superchips about the ecu, they said it will raise bhp by 40hp, with the performance HKS Induction kit, 3" exhaust (no cat) and MBC running 10psi (1 above the chip remap setting), what should i be running?

Ignore the safety switch, Simply cross over the automatic transmission safety switch wires. Simple twist and tape it up should suffice. Just remember to have it in neutral or step on the clutch on every start...

Power after mods...many chip makers power additions assume things like exhaust and intake already being done. No idea how your maker tests. You might get 30, you might get 60 or 70 total. Turn up the boost and you may see far more, or there is a chance you'll melt it down as many of the chips gain you power from leaning it out or fooling the high altitude sensors. I'd only start turning up the boost on yours with a wide band O2 sensor if you use the ECU (actually, to cross fuel cut I wouldn't ever do it without one, but for you I recommend to use one well before then).

You cannot re-program the 7M ECU's. If you know anything about the MKIII's ECU, you know that the ROM is on (effectively built into) the processor and its non-flashable. This means that you can't just reprogram it, you must remove the current processor, add a daughterboard w/separate ROM and processor.

Look through that link, that should explain some things.

As a sidenote: The Jet ECU package was originally sold with a Manual Boost Controller. The packaging reflected that with the JET ecu, you'd gain 25hp if you used the boost controller too. So, let's think... +Boost = 25hp.
