88 Supra Starter/Solenoid Repair Part # ?

A while back I found an excellent page that someone (from this group) had written about how to fix/repair the problem that the Supras have with the starter.

As some of you know there is a problem with the contacts that are either in the solenoid or the starter on the 86 1/2 to 92 Supra.

When you turn the key the starter just "clicks".

According to this webpage that was witten, you can replace JUST the contacts and not the entire starter. According to Toyota you NEED a NEW starter.

Anyway, this webpage was awesome! It gave a step by step tutorial of how to remove the starter, what tools where needed, how to replace the contacts, and THE PART NUMBER that you could buy from Toyota.

I had the page saved and now I can't find it. I've searched this forum from top to bottom and can't find it.

Can someone please help me? What I most need is the part number and "which" contacts need to be replaced.

My 88 Supra Turbo is just sitting in the garage

Thanks,
Ron

As of a few weeks ago, several dealerships have confirmed that they no longer sell the contacts by themselves. However you may be able to get them still, so for posterity:

Part #28226-72010

Anywho, here's the SupraForums post that says all you need:

Thanks.

Hopefully I can find them, there are about 5 Toyota dealerships where I live.

If not, maybe I can find them at a shop that rebuilds starters.

I sure as hell DON'T want to buy a new starter.

Funny thing is, my car only has 120,000 miles on it you would think a starter would last longer than that.

I had a 83 Celica that I put 220,000 miles on and never had a starter problem, then again, I didn't have a BHG either. LOL

Another idea that you can do that helped me with my 88 Turbo. I had the problem with mine intermittent, sometimes it would fire up and other times just the all to well click, I installed a starter relay switch up near the battery away from the engine and all the heat which helped and haven't had any problems since.
