Car dies / doesn't start... relay???

My 87 Turbo is randomly not starting and dying as I drive along every now and then. A week ago it wouldn't start on my way home from work, so I jumped it. I made it home just fine and it started up just fine for about a week. Now this morning it wouldn't start. I jumped it and was driving to work and when I turned my A/C on, it killed the radio. It seemed to send a surge somehow and I think if I were idling at the time it would have probably killed my car. I turned the A/C on and off to see what it would do again, and sure enough, same thing, killed the radio.
I parked my car at work and tried to turn it back on and it won't do anything. The battery appears to be completely dead.
The battery is 1-1/2 years old. I believe the alternator is the original (105,000 miles). Any ideas? Is there some relay or A/C component that is possibly failing? Or do you think this is just an alternator on its last legs?
Thanks!

I have had it before when you would turn the lights on it would draw to much power that the radio would shut off because my alt. was crapping out. Get it checked

Take your car down to Autozone, they will do free alternator and battery testing. One of those is probably certain to be the cause.

Ha! Turned out to be a bad (+) side connector. It was corroded beyond recognition. I found this by just probing around with a battery tester... luckily before suffering the embarrassment at Autozone, or more likely buying an un-needed alternator. I guess sometimes it IS the simple solution!
