UK Coolant In The passenger Footwell!!! HELP!

Hi All

I posted a few things with some great help for replacing the engine on my supra turbo auto (1991).

Engine transplant was fine, everything was great until..... coolant streaming out if the passenger footwell drain hole, and the carpet soaked. Straight away i thought it was the heater core, and having a doner car i replaced this ASAP. The next day i drove 50 - 60 miles, on the way home quiet hard.... no problems, no leaking, no loss of coolant.

BUT - today drove 20 miles, the temp gauge (just before home thankfully) shot up and coolant was once more streaming into the passenger footwell.....

Does anyone know what this is??????

Kind Regards

Rosco

I agree. The only part in the dash that has coolant going through it is the heater core. Could it have been damaged while putting it in?

Hi

Is there anything that could cause two heater cores to blow??? It is a coincidence that two have gone in quick succession, be it they were both used.

They're both darn 15 years old...shouldn't come as a surprise that they need attention at this point. Just unfortunate that it takes so much to get them out. I'd take it and have it recored at a rad shop to get a good as new unit without the cost of the dealer parts counter.

So it cannot be anything that is causing them to blow other than their 'antique' nature

I shall go and get the core recored if it is not anything else, thanks for your time and replies.

Nope. I'd definately say that's your heater core. On top of that quit using used cores. Go to a parts store and pick up a new one. They're not expensive. I've done it once and I will NEVER do it again.

I'm guessing that Toyota, like the Cressida, built the car around the heater core?

I managed to remove and replace the core in two hours, its not too bad, but i suppose anything seems a little easier after just replacing the engine

I've replaced/swapped/installed no less than 7 motors. I still REFUSE to install another heater core. If you follow the step by steps. To remove, replace, test, install, etc. It's easily a 6 Hour job. I think the shop time listed on it is like 5.5hrs. I can remove and reinstall the motor in that time.

a faulty head gasket at some point in its life can cause heaters to go weak later on due to the pressure but we have had (not in jap stuff but peugeot) bad earths causing electrolosis ...ie..a chemical reaction within the water system that attacks brass, alloy ect...if you have fitted more than one or two good condition heaters or rads in a short time check your earths-i kid you not....

This IS a fact...cause I read all about heater cores failing due to bad/poor body grounds, especially the ones around the interior (kick panels)...in MOTOR magazine. Several manufacturers have service bulletins on this subject.

Plus, if the car has been driven alot with the gurgling/waterfall sound in the core, it will eat away at it (cavitation), and cause a leak.
