Belt or chain driven?

Is the overhead cams driven by chain or belt?

Not in the M series motors, but they do still use chains in some (such as my echo)

I think there 1.8L's are chain driven. I figured it out when i saw a corolla all apart.

Yes, it seems that several new engine models, in different brands of cars, are going to chains. I've seen it, and I was reading (with amazement) about this in MOTOR magazine. Also, a real good mag to read is 'Underhood'.

It's all about the warranties, and limiting the used car life to sell more new cars. As makers start pushing well beyond 60000+mile coverage, the chains are the best guarantee of getting there, and since they're redesigining a lot of engines of late, it makes sense to incorporate them. However, when the chains finally need work, the cost will be higher than a belt, and may steer a person to a newer car rather than fixing the old one.

Heck, over the next couple of years it's expected we may start to see the first sealed engines...no oil change interval, no nothing...drive for 60-80000 miles and toss it. Talk about planned obsolecence...

Are you serious? Do you have any articles or any websites where i can read up on this? this seems VERY interesting....
