I have tried to search for the info, but not really finding it.....
i have the opportunity to buy a 90 na Supra in great shape, just turned 100k. $1600
i've been playing with the idea of this for a while, but need to know how difficult it is to turbo w/o going custom. Dont need huge power....maybe 280hp at the wheels(eventually) any help is greatly appreciated
If the body is like perfect and the interior etc. then buy it and just do the 7mgte engine swap. I mean if you know how to do wiring harness and have the nessesary tools and equipment to do that type of stuff. the swap isnt really that hard we did it on a cressida about 2 years ago. ask back if u need more info.
i work for a toyota dealership, so the work will be done properly (one hopes), but how expensive is the "swap"? And can I use the N/A tranny? I guess I was hopeing someone out there had a turbo kit.... As far as the condition of body/interior....next to flawless interior...95% on exterior...its just white....(not my favorite color)
What about a 1JZ-GTE swap....is that a feasible endeavor? I would like to stay w/the 7M, but have seen complete 1JZ engines and tranny for very little $$$$
I wouldn't turbo a N/A due to the fact that the N/A has a lot of valve overlap and the bottom end would burn up because turbos have oil squirters in them. It would be wiser to the 7m-gte swap. They are just the the Chevy 350 you can do anything to them and get massive power.
Turboing the NA block has been done and decent power has been made on them. That being said, it's definately not the safest or wise (IMHO) option. The 7M-GTE is built for boost, the N/A isn't. Yes, you can use the w58 tranny, but rumor has it that it's not friendly in the 300-350 area. Besides that the R154 (Turbo Transmission) is known to be good for 700+ HP.

Who came up with this 500px wide BS?
another thing with this car....it says it's a 90....has the bumper/lights/steering wheel of a 90, but has the old single wing spoiler?!?! I thought all 89+ had the 3 piece spoiler!!!! I really want to get this because of price and the perceived condition of the car, but if this isnt the right spoiler, what else isnt right about it?

its very possible tha trunk lid was changed due 2 rust or something, w/ an older one...or it was wingless and tha guy put an older wng not knowing there was difference. but...just put a turbo 7m swap from japan and u'll n at 280 in no time
chances are though that the previous owner may have just had a preference, i know i'd swap spoilers if i baught an 89+... the front end is awsome on the 89+ tho...
