I say buy it!(if the $ right)

Hey what's up I just wanted to let you know I picked mine(87 7M-GE) up for $500.00 and am putting in the ARP studs and HKS metal HG now! I don't care what I have to put into it the Targa top that don't leak, A/C that still works as well as the auto suspension and cruise controll......so far I've done an alt, batt., and serp.(as well as HG and studs) and will have $900.00 in. Not bad, still can drop w/1.6 kit, NOS and spoiler and have under $2k invested. Again if the $ is there, go for it! I have yet to see any other 87's in my area.(Springfield, MO) The only thing I found is the bumper guards on the body are starting to seperate( but will come off with the lambo/body work I've got planned.....).GOOD LUCK!!

well sorry to tell you guys but the HG is commonly bad on 7m-gTe's (turbo) the N/A is pretty bulit proof, so unless your going to boost then your fine as is. the guy wiht n2o metal hg was a good idea, a better one over the n2o is a turbo... but if your just going to autocross or curse then the ge is fine unless it had a thermostate stick or something like that.

You.
Are.
Retarded.

The N/A's are not bullet proof. The Head Gaskets are known to pop on them as well.
SEARCH.

Yep. The 7M-GE Cressida is totally absolutely not free from BHG. General life expectancy out of a factory HG is 100,000 to 150,000 miles from what I've seen. Sometimes more, rarely less.

well in all that I have read and in my personal expericance (200,xxx original) its solid, now any car will 'blow up' if you drive like a moron, in high revs all the time. since you are probelly the biggest ricer in your town that might be your problem, quit the ricer fly-byes and you might get longevity. and thanks for calling me a retard I'm sure the mods will agree.

oh and try reading a forum actully about the 7m something new and full of information, holy crap!

Way to go supra_steph! just don't get caught playing a game of "tit-for-tat"
I've got 153k now and it looked like it had been done before when I had her torn apart, bur unfortunatly I have heard the BHG was a severe problem with the factory HG. That's why I went with HKS. She now runs like a dream!!

One thing I found suspicious though, Toyota did 62/63fpt and everyone I've asked said go to 72fpt, but the kit from ARP said 75% of stud strenght which came to 80fpt!?

What's up with that?! I followed the ARP guidlines and went with 80. Figure if anything happened they can replace the next one for me.

yeah toyota raised the spec later, not a recall just if you took it in now and had a new hg on it would be like seventy something ft/lbs. and befor the cessida guy chimes in and says thats BS I call Rick Kemp and get my head work done through him. You do not know who he is but he designed the 7m head and alot of other stuff at toyota. so he might have a vague clue of whats up with the 7m head, maybe (last couple sentinces are in a sarcasitc tone).

How late? Even the last year of the Cressida (and the 7M, for that matter), 1992, is prone to BHG.

I do know that the *gasket* was revised over the years, right?

The Torque specs were changed from 55ft-lbs to 72ft-lbs in like '91. I think.

As for Rick Kemp, he started port flow back in the day and then worked at TRD for a while, he was not around in the era of the 7M Head Design process nor did he do lots of the design FOR toyota's factory engines. His heads are gorgeous and such, but he did not design it.

The 7M Gasket was revised twice IIRC through out the Mk3's lifespan.
