4me info needed

Im a 6th gen'er but i have a friend who has a 1980 supracelica with a 4me in it. Im not to familar with this engine or what is out there for it, but i was wondering what kind of after market engine parts are out there for it? From what i can tell it was also in a landcruiser and the cressida

What will bolt up to it such as other turbo manifolds, Heads (frankenstien engine), better trannies and drvietrains? Is there a better engine that can be swaped in using the same trany.? Is there a header for it?

What are his options with a 4me. Whats out there?

thanks you guys

There isn't much out there for the 4M-E. It was also used in the 1977-1980 Cressida, yeah.

In terms of engine, you might want to look at replacing with a 5M-GE (1982-1986 MKII Celica Supra) or a 7M-GE (1986.5-1992 MKIII Supra) if you want non-turbo, or the MKIII turbo 7M-GTE. With any option, it'll be a fair bit of work in the way of custom fabrication and electrical wiring nightmares.

In terms of engine, I'm not 100%, but any manual transmission designed for any "M" series motor should work. The W58 5-speed tranny from the MKII and MKIII NA Supras should work. No guarantees on fitment. Be prepared to potentially have to carry over certain parts from the donor car and/or transmission.

Be careful about rear wheel/axle hop with that solid rear axle, I was just at the local big Toronto Supra Club meet last week (it's been a week already?! Wow), there was a bloke with a 7M-GTE powered MKI Celica Supra. Yeah, it was a 12 second car (thanks to the massive weight advantage over the MKIII), but there still was that wheel hop issue. Blew out a few rear ends also, if I'm not mistaken.
