Part identification help??

Got my 88 supra running....finally. Although the heater control valve isn't opening or closing. So I checked out the system and found the problem to be the little vacum switch that controls vacum to the diaphram controlling the HCV.

However I have no idea what the heck the thing is called when at the local autoparts store trying to get one....those guys are rarely any help either. So what the heck is it called; is it a dealer only item; in which case does anyone have one they'd like to sell me?

Any help would be great, Thanks.....Dan.

It's called the Heater VSV, and it's a common part to fail. As far as I know of you're gonna be SOL to find it at a parts store, however, SOGI is here to help.

MK3: Hot water valve vacuum solenoid valve (VSV) replacement

After reading that article, we've got this:

Category: MKIII _ 1986.5-1992
Subcategory: Cooling System
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Authored by: Dr. Joseph Armstrong

Tools Required: Phillips Screwdriver, Solderless Connector crimper

Skills Required: Basic Skills

First, make sure that you read the previous VSV replacement article (Tip #XX). It is well written and will provide you with the basic understanding of the VSV operation. If you want your fix to remain "stock" in terms of looks, you can replace your old VSV with Toyota part # 88690-32280. It's from a Camry (I believe) and is virtually identical to the original stock one. Only thing you'll have to do is cut off the leads from the old VSV and attach to the new one with solderless connectors. Again, follow the previous article to see how to do this. The new unit comes with a bracket that you can discard, and mount the new one to the stock heater diaphragm valve just like the old one. Oh, and it only costs about $35 (2001) from Jeff Watson at Jay Mark's Toyota.
