research up the "turbo death whine". I'm not familiar with the MKIV, so I don't know much beyond what I'm saying now.

If I remember correctly, I've read/heard the stock turbo setup likes to take a shit. Anyone actually know about MK4s? I'm not looking for opinions, just common problems with 93-98 TT 6spds. Thanks so much! I'm gonna do some more research on ALLDATA at work, and check TSBs

Hey, you're on MNSC. I've seen your car at one of the meets (east burbs meet, when the south came to visit).

The #2 turbo loves to spin itself to death, also known as the turbo death whine.

Turbo life depends on how hard you drive it. The sooner you go BPU (anything over 17psi will start to significantly reducing the life) the sooner the turbos will go, but the average is about 80K. I know my turbos are going and I got 89K BPU on my 94.

Nobody mentioned the valve stem seals going bad. Thats as common with a 4th gen as a BHG is with a 3rd gen. Or the stock clutch slipping once you go bpu and start tracking the car enough. And ya like booster said, it depends how the car is driven and @ what boost. Some people run 21/22 psi, which ya will kill em shortly. Ive ran 16psi on mine for years hassle free. Just recently they started smoking @ 103K miles. Either way they are coming out soon.
Check out http://www.mkiv.com it'll tell ya what you need to know.
