Depends on your hp, if you have too much youll break traction, as with awd youll be more likely to be able to punch it and go, but you have drivetrain friction which brings down power.

Depends. Are you into traction or sliding? Can you steer with the rear end well. It takes more skill in the end to drive a rwd car fast opposed to an awd. It's also easier to get more power to the ground with a rwd, less alignments, less understeer, etc. I love awd but for pure driving fun on the street, go rwd.

Personally I HATE driving AWD cars...

...get some import 12.5" wide rims and customise ya guards, do a drive train and suspension upgrade and the HP will hold fine in a RWD. Hell i've seen a 800hp MkIV on 9" rears keep it down with minimal loss of traction but with major suspension work. The amateur racing here the WRX's and Skyline GTR's get flogged by a well setup Supra, i consider supra to be the japanese muscle car and a muscle car should be RWD only.

See, the womans VR4 is a blast to drive, but im comparing it to an N/A Auto Supra... lol, but the Turbo Supra's i've driven... its REALLY hard for me to decide... i'd prolly take the supra cause AWD cars are a BITCH to work on... GOD are they a pain... lol

I used to have a Turbo Subaru RX (Not a WRX, An RX). It was a BLAST to drive. Upped the boost, intake, hacked off part of the exhaust, boost gauge, etc. I loved it.

Ultimately my launches were better in the AWD. While you lose more power through the drivetrail, burnout and traction losses are incredibly minimized. I loved it, would blaze through snow, rain, dirt, anything with decent power and very minimal loss.

Only problem: You're still powering the wheels you steer with. While the RWD + FWD makes up for it, you still feel at times like you're driving a FWD vehicle.

Yeah, they're pretty damn rare. It had it's issues though. It was EA82T powered, and the front main seal loves going on those motors, so it always looked like it was smoking [from where it leaked oil], it had no cruise control, no AC. Clean as hell though. I loved it.

would it be easier if i said both the cars are the same? meaning same hp, same torque, etc etc, and the only difference is one is rwd and the other is awd, then lets say.....both are racing on the quarter mile strip, which one will win and which one will get a better launch?

The awd will get a better launch, but my guess is the rwd will catch up. How man awd dragsters do you see?

If they're the exact same, that means you'll have VERY few differences, but that also depends on launch style.

If you rev it to 6k and launch outta the hole, the AWD will win.

If you pedal it, and tear out of the hole w/out tracion loss, the RWD will win.

Why:

1) AWD = More loss through the transmission, so more power will be lost to the sheer mechanics of powering all four wheels.
2) However, with a high RPM AWD Launch, you don't have nearly the chances to lose traction off the line, saving you immense amounts of time.
3) Also, that means during high power shifts, traction isn't lost, it goes straight to the pavement.
4) If they launch perfect and lose no traction, the AWD has no benefits other than the shifting, and has the tranny power loss to go against it. Assuming the tranny loss is high enough, the RWD will catch it, and pass because it can put more actual power to the ground.

The primary reasons you don't see AWD dragsters is simple, it's HARD to put that much power through a differential designed to power all four wheels. That doesn't mean there aren't sub-10 second quarter mile cars though.

cool car, but why is the spare tire under the hood?

oh yeah...for just quarter mile street racing i would go all-wheel drive.
