Thanks for looking into this for me.
The circuit for the auto trani works the way it should. and the the brake lights do work when I "hot wire them (number 4 from my initial post) so the sockets are grounded and the harness is good from the fusebox back. As an FYI -- the rear lights and the fuel pump ground to the same location.
I don't have a manual but I have to assume the fault is upstream from there. I checked the wires at the pedal brake switch and there is no voltage. Is there another fuse or fusable link in there somewhere???
