The reflection of the high beam is more upwards than to the sides. The low beam projects nicely to the sides. You can switch the DRL off and save the bulb and ballasts if you want them in the high beam. But it wouldn't do much really since the eye can only see so much and the halogen highs do a good job with the lighting output.
