Actually, I would say Corolla owners (and entry level car owners in general) take worse care of their cars than the average car owner. . . .
Price is the main selling point of any entry level car, and this carries over to general maintenance (cheap tires, cheap gas, cheap oil, cheap brake pads, etc). These owners generally do not have the knowledge, or desire to work on cars and use the car as a mode of transportation, that's it. . . . . Their lack of automobile knowledge causes problems to linger or be written of as normal. . . .
I think that the Corolla having the reputation it does, despite these factors/owners, is a testament to it's durability. I agree, if you want reliable transportation, and nothing else, the Corolla is it.
