A 1992 mr2 with 106,000 miles for 8 grand full 3 inch exhaust and 3 inch downpipe as well..... K&N FIFK and XSPower Headers.... a Hallman Pro manual boost controller and Apex-i BOV and it has a exasuht leak do you think with this minor work done it might be beat on?
I would be very leary of purchasing a car that anyone has "upgraded", especially as a first car. If you're mechanically savvy and have time, money and a place to work on it then it might not be such a big deal.
Keep in mind that statistics say you're likely to at least damage your first car.
As to whether it may have been a "beat on" well, it's an MR2! These cars were built to be driven. A good mechanic should be able to inspect it and give you an idea of whether it was taken care of or not.

Ah, very good. What are you looking for in your first car? something to go back and forth to school/work with? A little racing? or ust a flashy looking car?
Living in Mass. winters won't be fun for you and an MR2.
Where is this '92 MR2 you're looking at? Maybe I can take a look at it and offer some advice.

Well the one i posted about is in Flsuhing New York which is about a 2-3 hours drive from Boston but there is two that are lovated in Mass one which is in Springfield a turbo charged http://autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ca...=en&cardist=74
for a car im looking for somthing a little fast n sporty my friend has a 93 5.0 which a rebuilt motor 373 gears and is thinkng of getting underdrive pullys and it also has a cold air intake and a King Cobra Cluth whcih exploded and is in the process of hvaing a stage two put on. That car is easily in the low 14s mayb even 13 seconds in the quater mile then someone else with a 1995 probe gt and wants to put a klze mazada motor in it whcih would make the car easily a mid 14second car so i want somthing to keep up with my freinds also i like the look of the MR2s when they are lcean they just have this nice look to them that you cant really see in any other cars
That one in springfield is a member of MR2oc.com He goes to most of the local MR2 meets. He's a pretty cool guy, and the car seems to be in good shape, from what I've seen.
That one in plymouth I have never seen before, but with 38k, it seems pretty pristine.
I'm only 22, so I was in your shoes not so long ago. I know it must be tempting to want a car to keep up with/beat your friends, but you have to weigh the positive and negative.
My closest friends had 4 different cars. All pretty much faster than my Celica. I'll go through them and what happened to them.
-1992 Nissan 300zx TT(actually his 2nd car) - It had 90k miles on it, and like any other high performance car with 90k on it, it needed maintainance. My poor friend, still in high school and only working part time at a gas station, couldn't afford to fix it and ended up having to sell it.
-1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST (also his 2nd car) - Driving through the city on a rainy night, probably a little faster than he should have been. He came to a yellow light, tried to beat it, didn't and T-boned a car turning from the side street. Totalled his Eclipse.
-1993 VW Corrado VR6 - wouldn't be such a bad first car if not for the high cost of maintainance. Again, lots of things started breaking, and he didn't have the money to fix it. Had to sell.
-1993 Ford Escort GT (probably the most reasonable of my friends) - ran a stop sign one day, hit a jeep cherokee, and rolled over twice. He was OK, but needless to say, the car was totalled.
I myself, inflicted a good amount of damage on my Celica. It would have hurt even more if it were my MR2.
The point of the story is, the statistics don't lie. It's almost a certainty you'll get in some type of accident with your first car. It's not that you're a bad driver, it's just the odds. The damage will have to be fixed and it will be a whole lot more expensive if it's a rare sports car.
I saved myself a good amount of headache by doing the damage to a run of the mill celica. I used the time in my celica to save up for a nice car, and I now own an MR2 turbo and a decent daily driver, while my friends are still paying for their first cars.
I guess it just goes to show you that a little patience really pays off in the end!

I live in Flushing... in case you want me to check out that car, let me know.
My honest opinion (after learning the hardest way possible) would be to get a virgin car, that has low miles and absolutely no modifications. Have it checked out by a reputable mechanic or friend and then hustle the seller on the price a little.
I'm 21, and I've had 23 cars. . . . . Some were complete pieces of shit, some were great and I wish I never sold, but my first car... I rushed and just bought it.. an it was the worst mistake ever. So please be cautious, let me know if you want me to check out the car.. I'll be more than willing to, and even take pictures for you.
I have consider a prelude a 1995-1997 becuase they are a decent speed car and since it is a honda i could basicaly do what i want to it and it woulndt break down. My father really wnats a sport car also so mayb i could try to pull a deal on him say hey dad u want a sports car what about a MR2 it is nice n fast and a 2 seater and then say i will hekp pay or somthin and he can still get me a prelude or an accord. That way i will win both ways.
Asifmbadar if you would wnat to take a look at it and give me your feedback on it becuase i mean it does not have alot of miles on it and is in a good driving distance from my house probaly a 2-3 hour drive. That would be really good and i would apreicate at it
hey dude i dont know how the preludes are over there but they r pretty fast down here my friend owns one it has a h22 dohc motor in it really kicks some a$$! most of the cars down here come from japan so if u need some advice or even if u need a motor i an get one for u or give some advice on one!
