I got one.
Actually, tt's not the sound of turbo spooling, but it's the wastegate dumping to the atmosphere.

The wastegate wouldnt sound like that.
Plus, thats clearly an edited video.

It literally sounds exactly like a commercial jet taking off.
Someone probably just spliced the sound in.

And yeah, the way the guy says "You sound like an airplane" -is- pretty retarded. :P

If you don't know anything just don't say it out loud.
IIRC, the guy who said that is a very knowledgable 3sgte tuner.
and I don't see nothing wrong with saying the car sounding like an airplane.
That is the sound of wastegate vented to atmosphere.

Wastegates don't sound like turbine engines.

Normally the exhaust from wastegate bypass the turbine and plumbed back to the exhaust pipe.
What you need is to dump the exshaust gas directly to the atmosphere.
Example from ATS Racing.

Beware that this setup may not be legal in your state.

so on a stock 3s-gte motor, the excess air pressure from the turbo is fed back to the exhuast from the wastegate? is it as simple as removing the piping from the wastegate to the exhaust to achieve that sound? performance-wise is this superior to a blow-off valve?

sorry for all the questions, I'm a new MR2 owner and I love learning about my car.

P.S. nice car ST, I used to drive one of those before an engine fire took my baby away =(
