3sgte or the 5sgte in my mr2?

I have only had my MR2 for a few weeks, its a 91, on the engine lid it says 3sgte, does this mean i have the jap engine, or is it the american 5sgte, i dont know much about the cars origin, is there any horsepower difference between the two? Thanks

if it says 3sgte, you most likely have a 3sgte.

or you would have a 5sfe, which is not a 5sgte......

big power diff. between 3sgte and 5sfe
