Shipping an engine

I found an engine in PA that I'm going to purchase. Neither the seller or I have ever shipped anything this large before.

Any suggestions on which shipper to go with? Steps to take to simplify the process?

I've only purchased an item that size once. It was a transmission from canada.

The seller sent it through "Yellow transportation".

The shipping was a bit expensive, but it was a pretty simple process. They called me when they received the tranny, and asked if I would like it delivered to my address or if I'd like to come pick it up. It was easier for me to pick it up with my buddy's truck, so we went there that night, signed for it, and took it home.

A tranny can be lifted by 2 peole, though. With an engine, you're gonna need to find some way of transporting it safely to and from Yellow.

Try giving them a call. I'm sure they can help you out. Other than that, I wouldn't even know where to begin.

Where are you located? If shipping is all being done in the U.S. (e.i. ships from U.S. zip code and is destined for a U.S. zip code) try FedEx. I shipped a tranny threw FedEx and was cheaper then anyone else.

Here's what I ran into. Oh, and I decided to go with a motor that's in Lexington KY instead so it's going from 40503 to 55343.

FedEx Freight $265

Pilot Air $250 - This is actually air freight and will only take 4 days to get here.

R&L Freight $265
www.rlcarriers.com

Yellow Freight - Didn't bother to answer their phone so I am not going to bother to do business with them.

Transit Systems, Inc. - $275
www.transitsystems.com

Between the convenience of the timeframe and the lowest price I'm going to be using Pilot Air.
