window problem

hey guys its me again with the window problem... well the passenger side window motor works perfectly... i just found that out by directly hooking up a power source to the motor... im not exactly sure why the window only goes down with the regulator control... my friend told me it was a bad relay... we were testing it for the whole night and trying to figure out how to fix it... does anyone have any suggestions?

Do you have a MkII? If so I'd check the wiring harness on the drivers side. There is a rubber tube that goes between the door and chassis that is infamous for trapping water inside. This results in corroded wires that will cause strange behavior in your windows.

I had this problem and had to solder the harness back together. Kind of a PITA, but not difficult. Here's a write up on it:

well i already tried another switch from my friends mr2 and it made not difference... would wiring in the drivers door actually cause the window to only go down and not up?

Your more then likely correct..had about the same problem, however before pulling 'everything" apart, have someone grab the rubber tube and shake the piss out of it with the conditions made to open the window. At least this will let you know if it a short or no continuity at all. If nothing at all, open the drivers kick panel and disconnect all the white connectors then re-connect (the pins sometimes get loose). Still nothing...If your switch is good like you said, you more then likely have a open circuit (wire broken). Good Luck.

The wires to make it go up are different than the wires that make it go down.
