Help,
I just bought my first MR2 (1987 White non-supercharged sunroof 5sp), but some bonehead pounded in the lock cylinder for the trunk (the one in back) and pulling on the release cable doesn't do anything.
Is it possible to open the trunk without damaging it further?
Thanks,
-Eric
yeah, all I can see now is a big black hole. At first I was thinking that it looked like someone pounded it in with a hammer and a screwdriver, but now I think they pulled it out somehow.
stick your finger in there and feel for a small lever and push on it... or get a flashlite and see if you can see the latch and there maybe be a spot you can manipulate with a screwdriver and move the latch manually.
I looked, I poked, and I couldn't feel anything. At this point I'm about to cut a hole from the engine compartment (pulling the engine this weekend) to open it, then welding it shut again. Either that or trying to locate a replacement back-trunk lid.

I've pulled on the cable from inside the cabin but it doesn't do anything. The previous owner disconnected the release handle from the cable and it looks like he was pulling on the cable itself pretty hard, seeing as the cable is shredded at the end.
I'll try to find a cable through that hole though.

bring it to a good body shop thoes fools know all kinds a tricks on getting locks like that open with out damaging anything... at least find out how much they want to do it.. my friend took his mr2 (my mr2 now) when he had it to Lamettrys collision and had them open his engine cover when his cable broke from the latch itself.. they got it open with no damage to the car at all.
