My car keeps bogging off idle. Give it any gas and you see black smoke comming out the tailpipe and even some backfires. I have checked fuel pressure, throttle position sensor, Mass air flow sensor, injectors, it has good spark there are no air leaks. What else should I check???

You didn't touch the screws on the side of the MAF/AFM did you?

It sounds like a boost leak to me.
What kind of BPV/BOV are you using?

I would start there and then check the intercooler pipes.

Yes I did touch the screws when I was trying figure out the problem, but I have tested the MAF and it is working correctly according to my mr2 manual. Now my car won't even try to start. It's cranks, and it is getting fuel pressure, and spark, but it is not firing, I have checked compression and all cylinders are right around 170 PSI. I have checked codes and the only one that comes up is code 43 (no STA signal to my ecu engine speed reaches 800 rpm whith vehicle not moving), but I don't think this has anything to do with my problem. WHAT DO I DO NOW?

If you undid those two screws you damaged the AFM, sorry to say.
Those two screws are never to be undone.

can a damaged MAF affect maximum boost... well i wud assume so but has anyone experienced a damaged MAF with crappy boost then replace the MAF and boost returned normal?

Well I guess I got lucky, I found the problem and it wasn't the MAF. Autozone gave me a bad coolant temp sensor. It was making my ECU think it was -40F. I replaced it and everything went back to normal!!!
