I Bought my 1st MR2 and its turbo need help!!

So i Finally have a really "fast car" a 92 MR2 Turbo well the car cost me $3,500 bucks it has a HKS Wastegauge and a bypass for boost sound, 17'inch MOMO sport rims.

Well now i am going to buy a Boost controller/turbo timer and a Fuel regulator. The car is at 5 psi i whant MORE boost like 7 psi .

The car right now is very "tricky" cuz i raced my friend in his neon R/T magnum and i OWNED HIM!!! and he was 2 cars in front of me when we started his car is at 16.3 at 1/4 mile then i raced him again (same day only 2 hours later) and he owned me LOL!!!

so my mechanic told me it could be my intercooler is broken or something(that is what he thinks he told me that by phone ).

But i raced a Integra GS-R with a manual tranny and i owned him but... i was at 5th gear and my car had reach the red line and could not go faster (the speedometer dosen't work so...). i was worried but my friend told me he was going 105 mph and i was like 5 cars away from him !!!. I DONT KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY CAR LOL!!! i am a noob at manual tranny so i dont throw shifts very fast so.... any help will be usefull thx.

lol welcome to the mr2 club

well you cant really judge a cars power by driving againest people on the streets.. maybe the R/T wasent trying his best at first.. or he just didnt gear propely

anyways do you actually feel the power loss later on?.. if so the intercooler could be getting heat soaked more then usual

are you talking about a the HKS BOV?.. supposedly the aftermarkets BOV make the car run extra rich.. which can be loss of power

well im no mr2 genious either so im eager to see what other people think

Welcome to TN !
first of all , talking about street racing is a no no on this forum. so if you don't want to get your threads locked, avoid that subject.
How do you know your only running 5 psi boost? does the car have an aftermarket boost gauge? a stock MR2 Turbo ought to run closer to 9 psi, with a fuel cut off at 12 psi. so if you're only running 5 psi u have a problem of some type. broken Intercooler? there are no moving parts on one so I'm not sure what could be broken. there maybe a leak though.

before raising the boost , you need to make sure the engine is in good running condition. Ingnition system-plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc.. cooling system, oil system, air filter and check intercooler hoses for leaks, loose clamps..wouldn't hurt to check brake system too. if you are going faster, you will want to be able to have good braking power.
then you can get a boost controller and raise the boost to 14-15 psi....but if you do so with an unsound engine, you may do some serious damage.the MR2 Turbo is great car. enjoy

Yeah my car has a aftermarket boost meter and it only reaches 5 psi and 7psi when i am in 4th-5th gear. The R/T is my friend and yes he was triying his best and he didnt miss a shift. Well then i will ask my mechanic to check all the engine and intercooler hoses.he has a dyno so we would know if some mething is damaged. I HOPE!!!! The car sounds like a VW Beetle on steroids!! LOL cuz of the wastegage.

And about the braking system it has the Cheack engine, AIR BAG and ABS dash light ON LOL and i dont really feel a big power loss. Well thx for the replys .
