MR2's are good for..

My friends told me that Why did I buy a MR2 cuz they are unsafe, have a Mid engine ,tend to snap oversteer and understeer and have very little space to work on the engine.I told them that MR2's are really good for Auto shows,Drag racing , Drift , Hill climbs.Well i was thinking in your opinions what is the potential of the MR2's.I really like them a lot.

MY friends rides ...

96 Supra N/A

Those all all decent cars but the MR2 is nothing to scoff at. It's only unsafe for people who don't understand the balance of a mid-engined car & the physics of weight transfer. It rewards a smart driver.

Potential for an MR2 is very good. Lots of mods can be had for all 3 generations. Downside is parts availablilty is so-so for some models and some parts can be expensive.

99 Mitsu 3000GT VR-4
- Can definately outrun you in a straight line, but you would destroy it on a nice tight track or winding road. If this guy even mentions the word understeer to you slap him in the face with his dirty AWD transfer case.

96 Rx-7 turbo
- Would walk you in a drag, but with a few mods you could match it's straight line speed.
- Handles very nicely, but you could edge him if you look for the FDs key weakness: On-power oversteer. Let him lead you and really pressure him from behind, then wait for him to mash the throttle too easrly and lose the rear end. While he's recovering, walk past him. But if the driver is really good, there's not much you can do to beat an FD except to be better =P

94 300ZX N/A
- You could beat this car all day long (dont get me wrong, I like Z32s, but an SW20 turbo vs a Z32 N/A is just no contest)

96 Supra N/A
- A similar situation to the Z32: You could walk this car in a straight line and definately outcorner him.

00 Neon R/T
- LOL! Maybe with a 150 shot of nitrous he can bring it but he'll be walking home at that rate.

04 Neon SRT-4
- This guy might be a drag shark. With mods these cars can be retarded fast in a straight line, so your best bet is to challange him to a real race (like, you know, with turns) and then watch him burn the front tires as he gets onto that big turbo he probably swapped in. This is another case where you can hit the driver with something if he tries to tell you you understeer too much.

87 Grand national (GNX)
- Similar situation to the SRT4. This car could be a drag monster and will probably beat you in a drag stock for stock just like the SRT4. But like you did with the SRT4, challenge him to a real race and it's no contest.

99 Camaro Z28
- Just like the other two american cars listed, this car will beat you in a drag. The problem with this car is that it's just so much faster than you in a straight line stock for stock and mod for mod that he may be able to make up the deficiency in handling which is actually surprisingly low. Your best weapon against this guy is the same weapon you use against the FD: Pressure from behind to get him to mash the the throttle.

93 Probe turbo
- This is another big "lol". Unless this guy is moded out the yinyang its just a joke.

yesterday when i posted this i was about to go to sleep but my budy (the one of the neon R/T) calls me at 10:15pm and tell me he is at the drag strip (is like 30 mins away from my home) and tells me to head over there to drag race with him and my other friend (3000gt vr-4 guy ) so i go and race my friend in his VR-4 1st , cuz i have a bad intercooler and can only run really fast like for about 15 mins lol.So i bought 2 bags of ice stop the car at the parking lot put the 2 bags of ice on top of the engine and wait 30 mins to cooldown (the drag strip close at 12:00am). Mean while my 2 friends where racing VR-4 did 13.6 @1/4 and the R/T 15.8 LOL . so when it was time to do my i was happy to go against the VR-4 LOL (I was going to get ) so i did 15.2 LOL cuz i only run at 5 psi(i have aftermarket boost meter) i think i have a intercooler leak.

"SRT-4 is AWD?"
No. The VR4 is.
The SRT-4 is FWD. Hence: "watch him burn the front tires".

"Thank you, this made my day."
And you just made mine =)

Zero, the funny thing is that the MR2 turbos stock quartermile time is about 14.7 seconds*.
That puts you directly between the R/T and the VR4.
Your friend with he VR4 drove that pretty well, cuz 13.6 is right around the advertised quartermile time for that car. So he may have some skill. At least at drag racing.
If you need to do some fixin to get your car running right, you might as well throw a few aftermarket goodies on there too. The stock turbo can run 15psi, so it wouldnt be a bad idea to crank it up to about 13 or 14. That will probably bring you down to the lower 14s. Injectors will allow you to turn the boost up a few more psi, but you start to approach the limit of the CT26. Then again, you can probably snag a CT20b for a few hundred bucks if you look around. That will get you into striking distance of the VR4 with other appropriate mods.
And always remember, even if you can't beat him at the strip, you have a vehicle that is fundamentally more capable on a road course than his. If you take the time to know your car and know how it handles, you can still trump him in a real race.

*(In reality, this number could be higher or lower depending on where you get the info from, but the 14.7 number is the only one I got from multiple sources, so that's what I consider the most accurate.)

If you have an intercooler leak, you may as well upgrade it instead of getting it fixed if you can find one for a reasonable price. You'll probably have to do that in the long run anyway, so it would be worth a few extra bucks.

yeah i am going to get a custom intercooler made (maybe) for like $700 and then put a hybrid Turbo on my car that gives 8hp to the wheel for each 1 PSI of boost example(10PSI=80hp) but they told me if i put that on my car i would need major mods on the fuel pump injectors Intercooler and a fuel regulator ...but is worth it. with that i should be in the mid 13's i hope.Any ways back to the topic my friend of the VR-4 he has some really good skills at the wheel. And about -"If this guy even mentions the word understeer to you slap him in the face with his dirty AWD transfer case." i told him that lol he was like .
so thx for that quote SpeedBallTrix
