non-turbo header help

I'm thinking about getting the OBX header for my 92 for x-mas. I saw a few on ebay for around 250 shipped. I have a couple questions.

1. Is this a pretty good price? I know it's not gonna make a huge difference, but 10-15 hp for 250 bucks doesn't sound to bad.

2. How hard is the install? I will mostly be my dad's "wrench bitch" because I am mechanically retarded, but should we be able to do it?

3. Where is the catalytic converter on the MR2? Would I have to get a different one? I saw on another post that they elimanate the stock cat. Of course, I could just register the car down in hicksville, where the old man lives, since they don't have emissions down there.

Thanks for the help as always!!

10 - 15 horsepower? I doubt it. I'm not sure, but the header will not make that much power, I dont think. And OBX isn't such a highly respected manufacturer, and $250 is a bit on the expensive side. Honest, what I would do if I was you, is run a search on here and at mr2oc.com and see how people with na mr2's like obx headers. There has to be someone out there who already has one. That will tell you what you want to know. Download the BGB online for the mr2 and look at the picture diagrams.. you will learn a lot. I dont know where the cat convertor is, check the faq and once u have the manual.. you will be a genius! knowledge is power, put it to good use

Do It I Also Have An N/a Mr2 And Im Thinking About Buying This Header Off Ebay It Comes With The Downpipe 2. I Think The Stock Manifolds Have A Pre-cat So It Will Be Eliminating That With The Header. But 250 Definately Sounded Good To Me. All The Others Were Like 400 That I Saw On Ebay. Im Not Sure About The Quality Of The Obx Header But Ive Seen Alot Of Em With Them. You Definately Wont Be Getting 15-20 Hp From It. Maby Like 8. And Itl Make Your Car Sound 10x Better.

1. Dunno about how good the price is but you're not going to get 10-15 hp out of this thing. Just not going to happen.

2. The angles you'll have to deal with will be a little awkward but it should be pretty easy.

3. The cat lives between the manifold and the front pipe. When you look down the front of the engine it's that coffee can lookin section that has bolted seams before and after it. I don't know anything specific about your header so I can't tell you about whether it'll require removing the cat or not.

I purchased the OBX header and mid pipe for my 3sfe... it DOES replace the cat with a strait through pipe... and it also has an extra bung just past the collector for a second o2 (cali) you will need to plug that bung witha large bolt... I can't think of the size at the moment, but my jap 3sfe had one blocking the EGR on the intake manifold.... so I swapped them.
the header has held up perfectly for the past 10k miles, it blued almost immediately, and after installing an ANSA silverline muffler.... it has an incredible tone. the stock muffler with the header however, sounds really bad.... it is SO raspy. you shouldn't have any problem with the install (should you decide to do it) all you'll need is some new exhaust seals (2) and a manifold gasket. If I can, I'll get you some pictures of my setup.... but I still don't have a digital camera.... so ... it's up to you to wait.
if you can wait for about a month, I'm going to be doing the 5vzfe swap.... if you really want the header setup... with the ansa muffler... I'd let it go for cheap...

another thing i would watch for is low quality machining where the header flange bolts to the block, i have heard that they can be uneven but if you take it to a shop they can easily even it out for you. watch for warpage around the flange also, but thats something to watch with any aftermarket header. let me know how it works if you end up getting it, i have been looking at those for a while now. a couple of my friends have OBX header on their cavaliers and they havent had a problem yet
